Artistic Practice

Gökşen Parlatan is a Turkish contemporary visual artist working across painting, sculpture, ceramics, mosaic, and installation.

Her multidisciplinary practice explores the relationship between material, memory, identity, and transformation. Moving between figurative representation and abstraction, she investigates how personal experiences can take physical form through artistic processes.

Rather than treating materials as passive tools, Parlatan approaches them as active participants in the creation of meaning. Clay, pigment, texture, and fragmented surfaces become ways of examining vulnerability, resilience, belonging, and the tension between order and uncertainty.

Her work often begins with an intuitive encounter with a material or an image, gradually developing into a dialogue between personal memory and collective experience.

Artistic Research & Future Directions

Parlatan’s current research focuses on the relationship between material experimentation, emotional memory, and spatial experience.

She is particularly interested in developing projects that bring painting and sculpture into dialogue with architecture, installation, and site-specific environments.

Through international artist residencies and interdisciplinary collaborations, she seeks to expand the scale and conceptual depth of her practice while engaging with different cultural perspectives.

Her artistic inquiry is guided by a central question:

How can materials transform personal experiences into forms of shared human understanding?

Residencies & Collaborations

Gökşen Parlatan welcomes opportunities for international artist residencies, exhibitions, interdisciplinary research, and collaborations with curators, cultural institutions, and architectural practices.
